Julliard Recording Studio
A compact space can demand as much precision as a large one. This 500 sq ft recording studio at the Juilliard School in Manhattan required every surface, angle, and material to serve a dual purpose, controlling sound while creating an environment that inspires performance.
PLANS Architects served as Architect of Record for this acoustic design project in one of the world's most prestigious performing arts institutions. Working in collaboration with Sondhus, the design transforms a compact space into a high-performance recording environment through geometric acoustic panels, strategic material selection, and precise spatial planning. The angular ceiling forms and wood slat wall system are calibrated to control sound diffusion and absorption, creating a studio that performs as well as it looks.
The result is a studio that meets the exacting standards the Juilliard School demands, completed in 2023 within one of New York City's most celebrated performing arts institutions.
